Jean E. EngleChief Knowledge Officer, Johnson Space Center, Houston, TXMs. Engle joined the Johnson Space Center as a cooperative education student in 1984. She earned a B.A. in Mathematics in 1987, and an M.B.A in 1993 from the University of Houston, Clear Lake. She has served in a variety of increasingly responsible division and directorate staff positions and has been a member of the CIO Office since its inception in 1994. Over the last several years, she has led JSC's involvement in a number of Agencywide and Centerwide Information Technology standards and security efforts. Her latest assignments were JSC Deputy Information Technology Security Manager, and in 1999, she was named Deputy Chief Information Officer.Named the Center Chief Information Office in January 2000, Ms. Engle's responsibilities include establishing and implementing the JSC Information Technology Program. The I/T Program defines the policies, processes, requirements and standards that will govern the planning, acquisition, management, security, utilization and reporting of I/T at JSC. This includes establishing and maintaining the I/T security program, policies, and procedures for all unclassified I/T (networks, desktops, etc). Ms. Engle was named Director, Information Resources in July 2003. Merging the Information Systems Directorate and the CIO Office created the new organization. The Information Resources Directorate is responsible for developing and implementing the Center's strategy for institutional information systems in accordance with Agency and Center policies and standards and provides a broad range of information products and services to the Center including the following: institutional computer and telecommunications networks and systems; mission imagery acquisition and distribution; production and distribution of the Center's scientific, technical, administrative, and historical information in the form of publications and other hardcopy documents, imagery, television, and graphics; development and implementation of automated systems for processing, storing, and retrieving research and administrative information; correspondence management; mail distribution; and management of the forms, records, management directives, and Privacy Act programs. In September, 2006, Ms. Engle was named the Chief Knowledge Office for the Johnson Space Center. In this capacity, Ms. Engle is responsible for the development of an integrated knowledge management plan across the entire center, conduct studies of current and past knowledge management activities, evaluate current policies and processes, as well as collaborate with other NASA Centers and industry to identify and utilize best practices. Ms. Engle has been the recipient of numerous awards including the Astronaut's personal award, the Silver Snoopy, two NASA Exceptional Service Medals, the JSC Certificate of Commendation, and the Goddard Space Flight Center Group Achievement Award. Her hobbies include scuba diving, equestrian riding, hunting, flying, traveling, history, and reading. |
