John KerrPrincipal, Moorman Kerr InterestsA native of Houston, Texas and resident of San Antonio since 1981, John Kerr graduated from Stanford University with a degree in History in 1970 and from the University of Texas Law School in 1972. He was a corporate and securities lawyer with Andrews & Kurth in Houston and later with Cox & Smith in San Antonio. From 1984 to 1990 he was Chairman and CEO of American Century Corp., a NYSE-listed financial services company based in San Antonio. Since 1990, he has been associated with a number of investment banking and venture capital firms, including Kerr Connors & Co., Southwest Venture Partners, and Harris Webb & Garrison.Mr. Kerr has been associated with a number of start-up life sciences ventures in Texas, primarily focused on cancer therapeutics, including BioNumerik Pharmaceuticals and ILEX Oncology in San Antonio and Introgen, Inc. and Brava Therapeutics in Houston. He currently serves as Chairman and lead investor in Azaya Therapeutics, Inc., which he founded in 2002, and Chairman of Evestra, Inc., which he founded in 2007. Both Azaya and Evestra are based in San Antonio. Mr. Kerr serves on the Board of Trustees of Southwest Foundation for Biomedical Research, the leading independent biomedical research institute in Texas, where he served as Chairman from 1998 to 2007 and as Interim President from 2006 to 2008. He also chaired the Texas Public Finance Authority, the bond issuing authority of the State of Texas, from 1995 to 1998 and from 2000 to 2003. He is a member of the board of directors of the Admiral Nimitz Foundation, which oversees the National Museum of the Pacific War in Fredericksburg, Texas, which he chaired from 2004 to 2010, and of the boards of directors of the McNay Museum of Art, the Texas Research and Technology Foundation, the San Antonio Medical Foundation, and the Menninger Clinic Foundation. He currently serves as Chairman of the Texas Advisory Board of The Environmental Defense Fund. He is a member of the Distribution Committee of the Kronkosky Charitable Foundation in San Antonio. |
