Joe Sanchez Jr

Senior Advisor, Air Force Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Agency

Mr. Joe H. Sanchez, Jr., is the Senior Advisor to the AF ISR Agency Director of Communications (A6). He is responsible for ensuring commanders, units, and personnel are provided with the necessary policy, procedures, and guidance to support AF ISR Agency command, control, communications and computers, and intelligence network operations across the AF ISR Agency.  The agency is a primary subordinate unit of HQ Air Force Intelligence Directorate (A2).

Mr. Sanchez began his Air Force civil service career in 1985 as an Electronic Security Command Intern. His assignments have covered a broad spectrum of responsibilities in the areas of Information Technology and Information/Network Operations including program management, strategic planning, network integration and operations and emerging technologies.

In 1993, Mr. Sanchez represented the Air Force in his selection as a Congressional Fellow by the American Political Science Association (APSA) where he served as a Legislative Assistant in the office of Representative Michael A. Andrews (TX) and as a Military Legislative Assistant in the office of Senator Dennis D. DeConcini (AZ). Upon his return from Washington D.C., he was selected as an inaugural member of the AIA Civilian Career Management Program (CCMP) and served in developmental assignments in the Joint Command and Control Warfare Center (JC2WC) and as an Assistant to the Technical Director of the Air Intelligence Agency.  He promoted out of the CCMP into his next assignment at the Air Force Information Warfare Center (AFIWC), where he managed the complex network and systems infrastructure supporting the AFIWC's information operations mission.

In 1998, he was promoted to his current grade as the Technical Advisor of the 690th Information Operations Group.  During this assignment, he also served the community as the AIA Liaison to the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA).  Mr. Sanchez is a founder of the Center for Infrastructure Assurance and Security and the Cyber Innovation and Research Consortium at UTSA, the Center for Terrorism Law at St. Mary's University School of Law and the Information Technology and Security Academy. In September 2005, he became the Director of External Affairs of the Air Intelligence Agency as an inaugural member of AIA's Senior Leadership Development Program (SLDP). In this capacity he managed legislative matters and community partnerships.  His next SLDP assignment was at NSA/CSS Texas as the ADET liaison to Signals Intelligence Directorate exploring and implementing education, training and learning opportunities for NSAT’s emerging workforce.
